MEET JOSH B.
Welcome to Josh B Studios, the home of raw, authentic art created by artist and military veteran Josh B. Specializing in work inspired by graffiti art, photo-realism, abstract expression, American traditional tattoo art, my work blends multiple mediums, including ballpoint pen, paint markers, acrylics, and digital art. From military-themed pieces and skull art to portraits with exaggerated features, I strive to capture life’s complexity through bold, unique compositions and unconventional materials. Some of my works are painted on skateboards, 228 labels, and wood—mediums that speak to my personal journey and creative process.
I was first drawn to graffiti art in high school, where I began exploring the world of street art and developing my style. After honing my craft, I pursued my passion for art at VCU’s School of Communication Arts, where I further expanded my artistic vision. Following college, I joined the Army, and during my time stationed in the Pacific Northwest, I was exposed to a variety of art forms that had a lasting impact on my work to include graffiti, tattoo culture and murals around the Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia area. Over the years, I’ve worked under the makeshift tag name Sellovt, and had the privilege of doing commissioned pieces for businesses such as Black Rifle Coffee.
What Makes My Art Unique?
The heart of my work lies in continual movement, with every piece considering the unique placement, composition, and color choices—often using inexpensive materials like office supplies to create something funky. I explore a wide range of themes including military culture, addiction, social commentary, lowbrow art, and tattoo culture. With each painting, I aim to bridge the gap between the artist and the audience, offering a piece of tangible, authentic art that resonates with collectors and communities, particularly veterans and anyone seeking affordable, original art. As my work continues to evolve and gain recognition, these pieces are not only a meaningful addition to any collection but also hold the potential to increase in value over time.
My style is deeply influenced by the music I love—artists like Nirvana, Mac Miller, People Under the Stairs, and KoRn shape my approach to art, adding layers of emotion and cultural relevance to my pieces. Through my art, I hope to connect with an audience that appreciates unconventional creativity and the rawness of graffiti culture.
